Six of our students (Christina Bechara, Leilani Davies, Kaitlin Eustaquio, Isabella Ibbetson, Cayleigh-Ann Ngapaku and Layla Ngapaku) have been selected to take part in the half time show during this Saturday’s FIBA Women’s Basketball Olympic Qualifying Series between the NZ Tall Ferns, China, Korea and the Philippines at the Trusts Stadium, Henderson.

Antonie Smal is one of twenty-five determined and talented Year 7 and 8 athletes proudly representing Sancta Maria College at next week’s South Eastern Zone Intermediate Athletics. Competing in athletics has been a passion of Antonie’s since the age of 8, joining extracurricular athletics clubs at Sancta Maria College, as well as competitive clubs outside of school.

In preparation for the Stella Maris Shield on the November 22nd, talented artists from Year 7&8 homerooms are giving up their lunchtimes to create an outstanding piece of artwork displaying the theme of “How God wants to see the world”.

We have all seen the colosseum-looking building that’s being constructed in C block. We’ve all been asking the same questions; why is it being built? what is it? A pool? A castle?

The boys had a great win on Saturday vs Mission Heights. Batting first we made our way to a total of 86 thanks to an excellent 22 from Jonathon Aviet, helped by Jayden Corriera who scored 16 runs.

On Tuesday, Year 10 art students explored the Auckland Art Gallery to further develop their art skills. During this outing, students were given time to complete a walkabout of the gallery and examine its artworks. This included multiple pieces by New Zealand artist Louise Henderson, whose work was intricate, colourful, and thought provoking, as well as crowd favourite, DiscoVerry, an interactive piece allowing students to dance to disco music in a brightly lit environment.

Last Friday was a special day for the Year 13 Sancta Maria College international students – their graduation. For many, it seemed like just yesterday when these young excited students from other countries came to Sancta Maria College for the very first time. The start of many journeys began as early as Year 8, meeting new people, learning new things and experiencing a lifetime opportunity up until their graduation ceremony.

Last Friday we took our Y7/8 Girls and boys touch rugby teams to Pakuranga Rugby Club for the South Eastern Zone competition. The teams had been training hard and we’re optimistic for some good performances. Our girls’ and boys’ teams both overachieved and reached our highest positions for the tournaments with two second places, just missing out on qualifying for Auckland interzone champs.

As the summer break draws closer, the library is carrying out the annual ‘Summer Reading’ programme in which students returning to Sancta Maria College next year can take out up to ten books to read during the summer holidays.
