While most students will be spending their summer lying around at home, Year 12 student Alyx Bolivar has an overseas scholarship waiting for her: a 12 day study tour to Tokyo, Japan. From December 7 – 18, she will be experiencing life as a typical Japanese student, living with a host family and attending a host school – all fully funded except for the air fare.

The SMC Junior Girls Volleyball B Team – “Sancta Maria Gold” – have been training incredibly hard since Term 3 to compete in the College Sport Eastern Zone Competition. Despite most of the girls being new to volleyball, in their five games so far they have displayed great determination, teamwork, and resilience, and have been able to hold their own.

To take and share Christ’s love wherever you go is the message our graduating Year 13 students were given by Fr Kevin at Wednesday morning’s Thanksgiving Mass. Our head boy and girl, Maurice De Jesus and Tahlisa Stevens, returned the school candle to our youngest students for them to keep safe until it is given to our 2020 head students, Francesca Adams and Tristan Tualagi, at next year’s opening Mass.

The Caritas Challenge Night Event took place this weekend as a group of Year 12s and 13s willingly spent the night in the school gymnasium. The concept of this event is to simulate life as someone who faces adversities, such as war in South Sudan.

Bryan Shi went to the 2019 New Zealand Open Dance Championship (NZ Nationals) at Wellington last weekend. He and his partner brought back nine National Championship trophies and they won a $2500 travel grant for the WDO World Junior (U14) Championship in Lithuania in May 2020.

We did it again! Last week, some 7LIS and 12 LIS students and their friends spent their lunch times packing Christmas parcels for 100 volunteers working at the Totara Hospice, Manurewa.

Sculpture, painting, printmaking… To express our love and appreciation for art, the academic council held a fun-filled lunch solely dedicated to art.

Last week the Year 7 & 8 Boys (Spartans) and Girls (Pumas) took part in the Interzone Basketball Championships at Eventfinda Stadium representing the South-Eastern Zone (SEZ) after both teams won their respective SEZ Basketball Tournaments.

Last Friday marked the beginning of the College’s prestigious prize giving season with the Merit and Service Assembly. Students, teachers and family happily gathered to acknowledge the service, work ethic and contribution of the Year 12 and 13 awardees for 2019.
