Open Grade basketball team preparing for tournament

The College open grade boys basketball team have had a good season so far. Competing in the Open A Grade (Central/East) for the first time (highest grade available to our school) they finished top of pool play (undefeated) with big wins over Dilworth, Sacred Heart and Botany Downs. The team also finished the season as Runner Up in Central/East to qualify for the Auckland Championships played on 15 August.

Let’s sing, let’s dance, let’s play

On August 1, Sancta Maria College students participated in the annual Auckland Stand Up Stand Out, a local competition that showcases performance of a variety of musical genres such as contemporary, R.&.B, popular, jazz and Pacifica beats. This was held at Otara Music Arts Centre and this year, a large number of our students competed in a number of categories such as: group vocals, solo vocals, band, and for the first time, dance.

Breathe Me – A Dance about Friendship

Year 7 and 8 dancers had the opportunity to perform at the Howick and Pakuranga Dance Festival on the August 6-7.They put in a lot of hard work, practicing every Tuesday lunch and on Thursday late starts since term 2. The holidays were used for practicing too, coming in twice to finish learning the dance. Then, in term 3, just a few weeks before the performance, practices took place every day at lunch, late starts and during class resulting in an amazing performance. We couldn’t have done it without the help of Miss Picot who made all of this possible.
