23 records broken at 2019 Athletics Day

 

A total of 23 records were broken at this year’s annual Athletics Day. Seventeen of which were on the track. This was a fantastic outcome and highlighted a day that was brimming with so many achievements to celebrate.

Year 8 student Zephaniah Lototau dominated his age group, breaking five different records. His discus throw of 29.10m broke the previous record by 10.3m and was more than 7m further than his throw last year. Zephaniah also set records in the 100m and 200m sprint, running a time of 13.28s for the 100m and 27.64s in the 200m. In addition, he finished with a record distance of 4.60m in the Long Jump and 1.41m in the High Jump.

Jason-Rafael Raad in Year 7 was also outstanding, charging to the finish line and breaking three records including the 800m, 400m and 200m in which he posted a great time of 28.36s.

Year 13, Tanya Murray broke a record in the Senior Shotput with a distance of 10.72m, surpassing the previous record of 10.60m which had stood since 2007. Tanya also set a record in the Senior discus with a huge throw of 34.70m. Laura Richardson toppled last year’s record of 2:41.85 in the Senior 800m, notching an impressive time of 2:33.06.

Other amazing records were set by Yuan Leal (Year 7 100m and Shotput), Mya Tubu (Year 7 100m and 200m), Layla Ngapaku (Year 7 400m and 800m), Antonie Smal (Year 8 400m) and Astyn Bidois (Year 8 200m and 400m).

In the Junior age group Marielle Venida set new times in the 100m and 200m, which she ran in 26.06s and breaking an eight-year old record. Lynn Al Boutros, also in the Junior age, group attained the Colleges best time ever in the Junior 300m with an excellent record of 1:00.09.

It’s fair to say it was one of the best Athletics Day’s the College has had. It was scintillating, history-making and an awesome showcase for the school’s many talented athletes.
