Our very first representation at student CHOGM

Kleon Lae Ninofranco

Over two amazing days in the first week of the term 2 school holidays, Aryaman and I (Kleon Lae) had the honour of representing Sancta Maria College as Fiji at the SCHOGM (Student Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting held at Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa Wellington, a significant feat to be able to represent the school on a national stage. This was the school’s inaugural participation in the event, marking an incredible milestone in our school’s history.

We joined student leaders from across Aotearoa to tackle a mock international crisis and debate pressing global issues like rising sea levels and migration. This event allowed us to work together on solutions as part of the Commonwealth. It was an inspiring, challenging, and unforgettable experience that helped us grow as young leaders and global citizens.

We even had the privilege of listening to well-renowned guest speakers who have established themselves on New Zealand and the region’s diplomacy and international affairs scale. One being Jan Henderson, a retired senior diplomat and Royal Commonwealth Society board member who has served in India, Turkey, the Caribbean, and more. Another notable speaker was Darryl Lau, the Deputy High Commissioner of Singapore who has amassed many experiences over Southeast Asia.

Overall, we are immensely thankful for this experience to represent the school on the national stage, which is both an honour and a privilege.

Thank you to Miss Redwood for your constant support and for accompanying us  on this trip! Without you, none of this would have been possible.
