A close and entertaining game

Our 1st XV had another home game on Saturday against Sacred Heart College and it was a close and entertaining game. The conditions were good despite the rain during the week. Sancta Maria received the ball from kickoff and spent large parts of the 1st half in their own half due to strong defence from Sacred Heart, conceding two tries to trail 0-10 at the break.

The coaches were pleased with the effort put in by the boys but reinforced the need to gain more territory and play in the opposition’s half of the field. Sancta Maria started the 2nd half strongly with good field position and retained the ball for longer periods. Despite being the more dominant side the boys couldn’t convert it into points with SHC crossing for a late try to seal the game 15 – nil.

Players highlighted after the game by the coaches for their effort were Angelo Mendoza, Tradyn Rameka and Vettori Foster. Our 1st Five Joshua McCarthy took out the Player of the Day award for a strong all-round game.
