To launch awareness week for World Ocean day, Kelly Mascarenhas (Year 10) addressed teachers at their morning meeting to make them aware of what was happening to the oceans and appealed for their support for the activities set up for the week.

With beautiful skies, scenery and birds, the Year 13 Biology students were lucky enough to take a trip to Tiritiri Matangi Island. On the trip, the students were offered a lecture about evolutionary processes leading to speciation, specifically about the birds that are found on the island and how they developed their characteristics.

The student body, teachers and guests gathered together to celebrate our school’s Feast Day. This special day is very important to our school because it remembers the Visitation, when Mary (Sancta Maria), our school’s patron, selflessly went to help her cousin Elizabeth.

For Term Two, the St Vincent de Paul society,“The Young Vinnies and the Mini Vinnies”, are voluntarily committing to rest home visits after school on Wednesday. This is to provide a sense of service to the community where they learn to grow out of their comfort zones and be ideal leaders by giving service to others.

Nineteen students recently had the opportunity to participate in a two day first aid experience. They became proficient in basic positions for recovery, C.P.R., as well as being able to assess and treat accident casualties.

Sancta Maria College was narrowly beaten in its attempt to defend the Pompallier Shield won last year from five time winners Sacred heart College. A highlight of the night was Henry Elliot winning the Maori Scripture reading top prize.  
Cuan Pillay came third in the Senior Scripture section.

This term, the World Vision 40 hour famine Student Committee is inviting the Sancta Maria College community – students, parents, staff and teachers, to once again join them in supporting the “40 Hour Famine One weekend One backpack’ challenge. It’s a great activity for the entire family to get involved in!
