Students were able to learn new phrases and celebrate the colourful and rich lives of our Pacific neighbours. The sharing of food prepared by Year 13 and Year 12 Hospitality students brought staff and students together.

Great teamwork, communication and sportsmanship were shown out on the Howick Pakuranga netball courts this Saturday, with the teams achieving some fabulous results! Despite the weather changes throughout the day all teams played exceptionally well and continue to do so as the competition progresses.

This could be the next big thing. Business students Christy Yang (CEO), Jason Wang (Marketing), Melo Zhang (Communications), Kiven Wan (Finance) and Cindy Liu (Production) have come up with a unique, healthy and refreshing drink using the best of ingredients from China and New Zealand.

Last week, Sancta Maria College celebrated Peace Week, a full week devoted to spreading awareness of peace and the work of the Peace Foundation, an organisation dedicated to working towards a world of peace. Peace Week is a week fully devoted to the idea of peace, promoting the idea to young people worldwide.

The semi-final match at the College Sport Badminton Championships was a thriller, with Clive squaring off against his opponent from Botany Downs Secondary College. Clive trailed by a few points at the mid-game interval but clawed back into the game in the second half and went neck-and-neck until the score was 30-30. His defence and pressure eventually forced an error by the other player to win the last point and book his place in the final.

Year 7 student, Bryan Shi, travelled to Tasmania at the weekend for the Tasmania Open DanceSport Championship. He and his dancing partner won Juvenile Open Ballroom, Open New Vogue and Open Latin championships.

Students at Sancta Maria College once again are helping our brothers and sisters at St. Luke’s Catholic Community. Students and staff alike showed our support for St. Luke’s and their journey towards building their new church.

Over the holidays, 13-year-old Gabriel Lesoa represented New Zealand overseas in a Regional Baseball Tournament in China.

Congratulations to Quintin Wong who competed at the College Sport Individual Swimming Championships and managed excellent results. Quintin won the 200m breaststroke and individual medley and earned bronze in the 100m backstroke.

Scattered rain and gusty winds challenged the Year 7 and 8 netball players at the SEZ Netball games last week. The wind and rain was a bit of a hindrance because it made the ball wet, the courts slippery and the rain blinded us when shooting. The bus left school at 8:00 am, filled with girls and boys buzzing with excitement to play netball. This was a tremendous opportunity for us to continue to develop our skills by competing against some of the top players in our region.
