Students and staff were invited to gather together to celebrate Sancta Maria College’s first Wednesday Mass of 2019.

The Year 7 and 8 teachers kept busy on Wednesday evening meeting the parents of the intermediate group.

I was lucky enough to be chosen to be a part of World Vision’s Senior Scholarship Week sponsored by Sanitarium. I was selected by Mrs Kevern as the school’s representative at this 4-day leadership course in January.

Of the thousands of students who attempted the ICAS spelling test, James Karl was one of 10 students in New Zealand to be awarded a medal for his outstanding performance in this division and one of two to achieve the highest score in the Spelling ICAS in the Year 8 age group in 2018.

As Monday morning came around, a group of Year 12 peer support students sat ready in the library, eagerly waiting to embark on the exciting workshop ahead.

Having been introduced to the Sancta Maria College community the new head prefects for 2019, Maurice de Jesus and Tahlisa Stevens, talked to us about their journey at Sancta Maria College and how they feel privileged and excited to serve for this wonderful year ahead.

We started the school year by welcoming nine new staff members and our Year 7 students with a Powhiri by the Kapa Haka.

It might not be as much fun as the ocean but the Y12 PE Studies students enjoyed their time in the water learning how to snorkel.

The new international students gathered in the quiet room of the library to begin their introduction to Sancta Maria College.
