The Girls 1^st XI put on a display of slick passing, speedy footwork and power shooting as they recorded a big win against Macleans College.

Today, 14 June, seven of our Sancta Maria College Year 12 students took part in the Pacific Islands Leaders of Tomorrow (PILOT) Polokalame.

An energetic, toe-tapping performance that delighted the audience. That was the Sancta Maria College production of ‘Grease’. Playing to near full houses throughout its four day run the show highlighted the acting, singing and dancing skills of our talented cast and the rhythmic playing of our amazing band.

Footballers, gymnasts and even a martial artist — various people we’d imagine we’ve all seen before. But for our senior Biology and PE studies students, they had a rare chance to get up close and personal with these individuals from a rather unique perspective.

A competitive and confident performance saw our 1^st XV run out 26-10 winners against Kings College. The game was highlighted by a stunning solo try by Peter Halafihi while Vissesio Tangifua received the man of the match award for a tenacious display in both attack and defence.

For the first time since 2015, Sancta Maria College entered the NZCT Chamber Music Contest. The contest was held last Thursday at Epsom Girls’ Grammar School, and was attended by three ensembles from our College. Mr Stuart Gibbs, who organised the entry of, and directed the ensembles, said, “Back in 2015, Sancta Maria College only entered a single trio, so to have 15 students this year is a measure of how far we have come in that time.” The College’s music department is constantly growing and developing. 

Last Thursday, Niamh Walsh was one of a select group of students invited to join the Minister for Climate Change, James Shaw, in launching public consultation on the Zero Carbon Bill.

Despite the unfortunate weather, our Year 13 geography students made the most of the limited time they had in Rotorua, one of New Zealand’s major tourist destinations.

About 250 Sancta Maria College students will be sacrificing some of their comfort this weekend in support of the World Vision 40-hour famine. This year the money raised will be used to support South Sudanese refugees fleeing war and famine in their homeland.
