Communication is the key

For some lucky Year 12 and 13 students, a supplementary communications and confidence course was available over the last three days. This highly engaging course, which was worth 9 NCEA credits, aimed to give the students an opportunity to overcome shyness and build confidence. All three days were action packed, with the students being kept busy with practical assessments based on listening, teamwork and presentation skills.

Students were required to gain information for a set objective, before presenting their knowledge in both individual and group activities. All of those who were involved left the course feeling “more confident about job interviews” and had “improved public speaking and communication skills”.

This is only the most recent of the many courses and events the Sancta Maria Careers Department provides our students with, to better prepare them for the challenges of NCEA, tertiary study and employment.
