Learning about Islam

Last week, the Year 12s were pleased to have four members of the Islam community talk to them about the religion of Islam, showing how it had many similar beliefs to Christianity.

Since the Year 12s are focused on their internal based on “Different Religious beliefs”, they needed a deeper understanding of what the religion of Islam taught.

During the presentation, an imam, named Franz Khan, spoke to us about their religion and beliefs. To break the ice he cracked a joke and filled the place with laughter, saying how we were not much different and were equal to one another.

It was great to see many students focus on Franz’s words of wisdom about Islam. We learnt that Islam meant the submission to the will of the Almighty God and Muslims are included in God’s plan of salvation. The Church has a high regard for the Muslims who worship one living God, the Creator of heaven and earth, who has spoken to humanity. As for myself, I learnt how the Five Pillars are really important to their religion and how you should never break one of them.

We would like to thank the members of the Islamic community who gave up their time to share their beliefs. Our students learnt a lot from their presentation and this knowledge will be very useful for our upcoming assessments.
