Imagine being poised and ready to leap while you heart is pulsating rapidly. Then you hear “GO!”
Fourteen of the College’s Year 7 and 8 students competed in the South Eastern Zone Swimming championships at Lloyd Elsmore pool.
Year 7 Quintin Wong was undoubtedly the star performer, winning the Year 7 boys 100m and 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke and coming second in the 50m breast stroke.
Quentin started swimming at the age of 4. By the age of 7 he was being taught by a personal trainer and also representing his club at a competitive level. Through this dedication, Quintin has been excelling in the field of swimming as this is also one of his favourite hobbies. He knew that he had a great interest in swimming and loved it as soon as he got in the water. Furthermore, he also thinks that he was born to swim for a purpose.
“I felt like I was on cloud 9 and extremely excited when I won the races.”
Now Quentin is persevering and training harder than before as he will compete in the South Eastern Zone Auckland Championships along with Year 8 student Trelise Dance on Wednesday, April 5.
If Quintin keeps this up he is definitely a champion in the making.
