Student Coach Development Day

Last week, seven Sancta Maria College students, Alice Stonehouse, Claire Barbafiera, Dominic Stolten, Katrina Chan, Megan Seddon, Mia Gilchrist and Orla Edwards, attended a coach development day at Alexandra Park, Greenlane.

The objective of this day was for each of us to go back to school having gained new knowledge and resources to better our coaching skills.

The day began with a generic coaching course in which we were presented videos displaying different types of coaching. We also had a chance to reflect on what we would personally expect from coaches as an athlete.

Later we had the opportunity to go outside and watch the Blues train on the field. When lunch came, we went back indoors into the meeting room to be welcomed with mini burgers, potato fritters, fruit kebabs and chicken skewers.

In the next session, we got taught to do ACC’s performance enhancement warm up programme on the field. To top off this day, when all the learning sunk in, we had the opportunity to use our new skills practically and attempt to teach other students who attended this day some sport-specific drills and games.

We ended up having experienced many different perspectives and we developed our communication skills. Sport Auckland managed to provide us with an educational day while keeping it fun.
