Tournament week begins

From August 31 to September 13, 150+ Sancta Maria College students will compete in 12 different sports codes in various tournaments throughout the North Island. This is one of the largest collections of sporting talent that our school has been able to form and it’s a terrific reflection of the hard work and dedication that our students, staff, teachers, parents and community have shown over the last few seasons.

Featured are our AIMS Games students where we will see teams compete in Basketball, Football and Netball along with several individuals in Table Tennis, Badminton, Swimming, Cross Country, Multi-Sport, Mountain Biking and Gymnastics. Our Spartans Basketball team (Yr 7/8) are coming off the back of winning the Term 2 Eastern Miniball A Grade competition, the South Eastern Zone Championships and are currently undefeated in the Term 3 Miniball League so expectations are high for their AIMS Games campaign.

Our College teams will be looking to build on strong 2018 performances with our Premier Girls Hockey team playing in the New Zealand Secondary Schools (NZSS) Satellite Tournament in Whanganui; Premier Boys Rugby team in the Auckland Schools Rugby Festival at the College Rifles Rugby Club; Premier Girls Netball team (recently crowned Auckland Senior A champions) in the Upper North Island Secondary School Championships (UNISS) at North Harbour; Junior Premier (Y9/10) Boys Basketball team at the NZSS Zone 1 Junior Premierships in Takanini; several of our netball teams in the Kurangaituku Netball Tournament in Rotorua; and our Premier Boys Basketball team who will make our school’s first ever appearance at the illustrious NZSS AA Premierships which are the National Secondary School Basketball Qualifiers.

It’s going to be an exciting time for our school and if you’d like to join the action, you can contact our Sports Coordinator, Mr Kieran Gutry (our main tournament organiser) by email, sport@sanctamaria.school.nz or by phone, 021-139-3171.
