The annual Principals’ Breakfast hosted by the Howick Youth Council (HYC) took place yesterday morning at the Te Tuhi art gallery in Pakuranga. This was a great opportunity for teacher representatives from the nine schools within the Howick ward to connect with HYC and get a preview of the events that they will be organising over this coming year.
This event allowed schools to see the work their student representatives are involved in. At Sancta Maria College, our representatives are Francesca Adams, Meggy Laguda and Danica Loulie-Wijtenburg.
The entire Howick Youth Council is comprised of 28 students aged from 15 to 24, divided into four teams. Each team will have three to four projects over the year, aimed at representing youth, developing their skills, and connecting the youth of Howick.
The very first team-led event of 2019 took place on Tuesday and was a Kahoot quiz night aimed at connecting youth across Howick as well as developing their knowledge of New Zealand’s government. It was a great success with over 50 participants and signals a year of exciting projects ahead.
Local MPs Jami-Lee Ross and Simeon Brown, their youth MPs Kate Hatley and Hayley Xie, as well as various Howick Local Board and Auckland councillors also attended the breakfast.
