Last Wednesday, our Year 12s were enlightened about the exploitation of young children, particularly girls in various parts of the world.
Child Rescue speaker, Stacey Mitchell, came to talk and help raise awareness about the serious issue of sex trafficking which is happening around the world, most especially in South East Asia and in Central America. Stacey has been speaking at schools around New Zealand helping to gain support and raise our awareness of what is happening in our world.

Being a bystander to bullying changes nothing. We notice it happening around us yet we never do anything to stop it. As Albert Einstein once said, “The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.”

On Wednesday the Year 8 students went on Retreat. It was a special time to reflect on their faith and thoughts. The theme for the Retreat was “Friend in me” and the students did a lot of activities relating to the theme. The activities consisted of: Building bridges, an Infinity War Maze and making an anchor.

There is a full-on itinerary for Library Week, so full it started today, when our Year 11s and some of our Year 12s were fortunate to hear author Brian Falkner talk about his experiences as a writer.

With Bullying-Free New Zealand Week coming to an end (14-18 May 2018), in a sea of pink, students and teachers throughout Sancta Maria College substituted their school uniform with pink clothing to help spread and promote the word on anti-bullying and that we all play a role to support it.

Through the school’s help in fundraising for her cause, Sancta Maria College student Miyuki Muraki was able to raise enough money to buy supplies for the children and women in need at the Mercy Centre and the Association for the Promotion of the Status of Women (APSW) in Thailand in her latest visit to the country.
