A total of 23 records were broken at this year’s annual Athletics Day. Seventeen of which were on the track. This was a fantastic outcome and highlighted a day that was brimming with so many achievements to celebrate.

Three Year 12 students have proved themselves to be some of the most talented gamers in east Auckland. Ethan Uy, Sangwoo Lee and Alyx Bolivar won a tournament organised by Omen for the game ‘Overwatch’ at Techxpo on Saturday, competing against others of all age brackets.

Thursday, February 28 marked the first late start of the school year. Every second Thursday morning, College staff attend professional learning development sessions where the prefects take control and organise fun events for the Year 7 and Year 8 students.

Who knows more about rocks and volcanoes than Ella and Tom? Ella and Tom both work at the Auckland Museum and specialise in rocks and volcanoes. Our school was delighted to have them visit the Year 8 classes with interactive games.

Term 2 isn’t too far away and we have lots of students wanting to play winter sports. We need more coaches to be able to enter teams into competitions and keep a smile on the face of all these enthusiastic boys and girls.

As the sun rose brightly on Wednesday Morning, it was a perfect day for the Year 7s to go out of school for their Retreat. We had 5 different sessions during the day, Singing, Drama, Arts, Scripture and Team Building. Everyone had an awesome day of learning and most of all we surely did have fun!

Sancta Maria College was the host for the second of eight events in the orienteering sprint series. Having home advantage our orienteers bagged some great results. Ethan Siao and Koyuki Ho are pictured studying the course.

Our 2019 prefect team had the great privilege to come together with the other Catholic school leadership teams in Auckland last Sunday. This event was the February Diocesan Youth Mass, hosted by both Logos Project and the Salt and Light leaders.

We started our summer holiday this year perfectly – just a stone’s throw from Whangarei on the Tutukaka peninsula at Pataua North.

An early flowering of Pohutakawa meant that the coast was vibrant with colour and practically humming with bees. It felt good to be out of town for a while and as I relaxed on the sand listening to the music the bees made, I started to think….
