The Auckland Interfaith Council, with support from the Religious Diversity Centre, invited Year 12 leaders to participate in the Leadership Diversity Day 2019 at MIT Marae – Nga Kete Wananga.
The event encouraged active understanding and engagement in the issues facing youth today from the perspective of Auckland’s diverse religions. It emphasised how, in an increasingly diverse society, it is important for New Zealand that future leaders are capable of effective and respectful inter-cultural communication.
The day started with a powhiri and was followed by representatives from each religion discussing how their values respected the environment. Francesca Adams and Adam Martis represented Sancta Maria College by presenting a Christian viewpoint.
Thought proving questions were then put to the group. Students benefited by exercising their critical and creative thinking skills through discussion of questions asked.
